What happens when students and GRADUATES incorporate their art historical knowledge into other areas of study, work, or creative practice?

Between 2017-2020 I completed a Master of Arts in Art History at the University of Washington. Synthesizing Practices, the culminating practicum project, is a series of short videos about students and alumni who are interested in, use, and study art history. The videos highlight how people use their art historical skills in different areas of their educational, creative and professional lives.

Synthesizing Practices fulfilled partial requirements for a masters practicum in art history, but it also fed my interest in creative documentary. As someone who makes art, studies art history, and works with students, I believe it’s important to showcase how we make meaning from images and objects, and the ways in which we bring that meaning into our own creative, educational, or professional areas.

I’m interested in documenting how relevant art history can be, especially for students who are not necessarily pursuing advanced degrees with the goal of postdoctoral research.

If you’re an emerging or established artist, or working in the public or private sector, I want to hear how art history has impacted you. Visit the Synthesizing Practices website to connect.
